On Saturday, December 5th, 2009 from 2 p.m-5 p.m., Dundalk High School will be hosting the first annual Zumbathon, in the Dundalk High gymnasium, to support Dundalk High School student programs. But what is Zumbathon? It is a three hour dance party that is led by various licensed instructors designed to raise money for different groups and for good causes. Mrs. Wooldridge is an instructor that leads regular one hour Zumba classes, designed for increasing your heart rate, and to give you a work-out. “The nice thing is you’re dancing and you don’t feel like you’re working out,” says Mrs. Wooldridge.
Mrs. Wooldridge became involved in Zumba because of the Girls Varsity Soccer team. The girls wanted to have a real work-out because they weren’t having hard enough practices. So, they went to Mrs. Wooldridge for some ideas. She worked with the girls by doing Zumba, pilates, and yoga. After all of that, the girls fell in love with Zumba and asked for more information about the dance. Mrs. Wooldridge told the girls that Zumba is all sorts of latin dances, such as, the Salsa, the Mambo, the Merengue, and many more.
The Girls Varsity Soccer Team got Mrs. Wooldridge involved because they needed to raise money for their warm-ups, so Mrs. Wooldridge decided to hold a Zumbathon to raise the girls their money. “The PTSA jumped right on board,” she says talking about the first annual upcoming Zumbathon.
