Adopt-a-Family is a program that consists of buying presents for families that can not afford to celebrate Christmas. This program was started twelve years ago by English teacher, Mrs. Dillard, along with the help of Librarian, Mrs. Cline. This year Dundalk has adopted four families.
The families’ information is supplied by social services, so we do know that the families are considered needy. Mrs. Dillard hopes to provide two outfits, two toys, and a stocking for each child in each family. “We collect toys and clothing, all must be unused and age appropriate,” Mrs. Dillard stated. All donations are appreciated. The suggested donations are gift certificates, toys, and stocking stuffers, in addition to donations of wrapping paper, gift tags, shirt boxes, and bows, so students can wrap the presents. Monetary donations can also be made to Mrs. Dillard in room 230 and Mrs. Cline in the Library. Many faculty members contribute to the program each year.
“It’s just one of those things that makes me feel good to do because I’m fortunate enough that I can do it,” stated Mrs. Dillard.
