The goal of all students who enter high school is to graduate, but what are the requirements for graduation in Baltimore County? Baltimore County requires a minimum of twenty one courses with a specific number of courses in each area of study: English four, Fine arts one, Mathematics three, Physical Education one, Science three, Social Studies three and a half, Technology Education one, and a completer course. The completer courses: College Completer, Career Research and Development, Child Care Services (Elementary and Pre School), Nutrition and Food Science, Teacher Academy of Maryland, Human Services Associate, Homeland Security, Carpentry, Audio Video Communications, Business Management, Finance and Accounting, and Marketing Management. Baltimore County also requires that you pass each of the High School Assessments either with passing each individual High School Assessment, the combined score of 1602, or the Bridge Plan. The last graduation requirement of Baltimore County is at least seventy five Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.
Forty six of Dundalk High’s seniors have not met the SSL requirements. That means that sixty eight seniors will not graduate this June, unless they complete the required seventy five SSL hours.
How do you get you SSL hours? “There are two options to getting your SSL hours. There are courses that have SSL hours in them, so they magically show up on your report card. Another option you can use to get your SSL hours is by volunteering in the community for a non-profit organization,” Mrs. Cline, school Liberian, stated. The classes that have SSL hours already in them are ninth grade Government, Technology Education, English ten, Biology, Health, and the Child Care Completer.
